My name is Alyssa Heron, and I am a senior at the University of Mary Washington, majoring in Environmental Sustainability and Policy with a minor in Practical Ethics. I aim to use this interdisciplinary academic foundation to become an effective environmental justice and sustainability advocate. By integrating both social and natural sciences, my coursework has allowed me to analyze environmental issues from multiple perspectives. I hope to collaborate with other advocates to study humans’ impact on the planet and promote sustainable practices, as well as examine the social factors that contribute to environmental degradation.
Currently, I am interning for the university’s Office of Sustainability, where I support public outreach through social media and assist with organizing sustainability-related events on campus. This experience has furthered my understanding of the importance of community engagement in advancing environmental stewardship. I look forward to continuing this work in the future and further developing my role as an advocate and changemaker.
